New Delhi: The meeting of two global powerhouses – US President Donald Trump and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a closely watched affair. Both leaders are known for their flamboyant style and popularity among masses. They both possess a signature style of greeting others – Trump’s clasp-and-tug handshake and Modi’s free-hugs-for-everyone.
Trump uses his handshake as a power move, a manner through which he asserts his dominance. Modi on the other hand uses the hug as a way of showing that he is an affectionate person. As they addressed the media, the world waited with bated breath - How will they both greet each other? Which leader will give way to the other?
As their every move will be closely followed and analysed, it seems the Indian PM had the perfect answer to Trump’s power move. With surgical timing, the Narendra Modi would turn the handshake into a hug whenever Donald Trump would try to tug his hand. A self-admitted germaphobe, Trump seems to have not been anticipating the move and was truly overshadowed by the Indian counterpart.
Twitter obviously went into a meltdown as Modi stumped Trump:

Modi deals with Trump handshake by pulling him into brief hug. Interesting strategy. #ModiTrumpHandshake #ModiMeetsTrump pic.twitter.com/4A2WfFDT2o— Rob McDonagh (@RobMcD) June 26, 2017
Handshake review: Looked firm, mildly jerky from Trump. Modi gave it back strategically as well. All in all good for India. #ModiTrumpMeet— Kabir Taneja (@KabirTaneja) June 26, 2017
