HYDERABAD: City’s theatre enthusiasts now have a new definition of theatre, which does not limit itself to one group of audience or one language. Hence, to bring in a more revived theatre experience, and also add a multi-lingual tinge to it for all the theatre lovers, Abhinaya National Theatre Festival-2011, aims to cater to their needs. Abhinaya Theatre Trust in association with department of culture, government of Andhra Pradesh (AP) , AP Film, TV and Theatre Development Corporation and South Cultural Centre have organised Abhinaya National Theatre Festival-2011, which is the 6th National Multi-Lingual Drama Festival. The festival has also collaborated with the North-East Zone Cultural Centre and Kannada Cultural Department, for a four-day long festival, from the August 10 to 13, at Ravindra Bharati. The festival will include both stage plays and street plays, which will be performed by different theatre groups, coming from across the country. The festival started off with a play by Roopantara, a Kannada theatre group from Bangalore, which staged Ramadhanya, directed by KSDL Chandru and written by Ramakrishna Marate. Tha Kannada play will be followed by a street play, Vush Kaki, performed by the Andhra Pradesh Theatre of Vijayanagaram, directed by Gedda Vara Prasad and written by LB Sriram on August 11. Next in the series is a Tamil play, Molagapodi. Kattiyakkaari, a theatre group based in Chennai, will be staging Molagapodi, which is directed by Srijith Sundaram and written by Baama. To bring in a Telugu flavour to the festival, on August 12, a Visakhapatnam based theatre group will perform a street play, which will be followed by an Asamese play, Abhisaar, performed by Purbaranga, an Asamese theatre group. The play has been written, directed by Gunakar Dev Goswami, who has also composed music for the play. Last day of the festival will have a Hindi street play and will conclude on a Manipuri note. Banian Repertory Theatre, a Manipur based theatre group will perform Ashalata Gi Hikchang, directed by MC Thoiba and written by MC Arun.
