New Delhi: NDA and Left members on Thursday clashed in the Lok Sabha over the Opposition's charge against Speaker Somnath Chatterjee of "suppressing" its voice, forcing two adjournments of the House.
The Lok Sabha witnessed uproarious scenes as Left members accused the BJP-led NDA of casting aspersions on the Speaker.
They vehemently objected to NDA's charge that the Speaker was not allowing the opposition to have its say.
Amid the din for about five minutes after the Lok Sabha met for the day, the Speaker first adjourned the House till 1130 hrs (IST) and when similar scenes were witnessed again, till 1300 hrs (IST).
The Lok Sabha was finally adjourned for the day. Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 1400 hrs over Pathak Report.
The Left members particularly took objection to a letter written by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to Chatterjee in which he said the Speaker was unable to win as much confidence of the opposition as of ruling benches.
They sought an apology from the senior BJP leader. The NDA members retaliated, triggering pandemonium in which nothing could be heard.
