New Delhi: The US Congress may have given the Indo-US nuclear deal its nod with New Delhi claiming that most Indian concerns have been addressed but expect some fission when Parliament reconvenes on Monday.
The principal nuclear deal baiters - the Left say doubts still remain about what the US calls non-binding clauses like the one seeking cooperation on Iran.
CPM MP Sitaram Yechury said, “With anything that comes under our policy framework that has got to do with US must be watched closely. We cannot take this issue for granted."
These are clearly directed at the domestic audience. So expect parties like the Samajwadi Party to join the chorus especially so with elections to the UP Assembly just round the corner.
The BJP too is not particularly happy and is expected to echo the Left's cry that such important deals need atleast a nod from Parliament.
Leader of Opposition Jaswant Singh said, “The Government is behaving in a very curious manner. The Opposition needs to be taken into confidence and be given a clarity on the government’s intent."
But these will be predicable noises. With the deal almost done, the Opposition parties will only have the opportunity to play to the gallery.
