BANGALORE: In its efforts to capitalise on the international demand for quality golf courses, the tourism department is planning to place a proposal to develop an international standard golf course at Thannirbhavi near Mangalore before the high level committee. Tourism Department Principal Secretary N C Muniyappa said, “We have got some very good response for the tenders that we had invited for developing the golf course. Therefore, we have forwarded the proposal to the finance department to complete the necessary formalities and it will be placed before a high level committee to obtain the final clearance, at the earliest, to enable us to award the tenders to the chosen party.”According to sources, three private investors have expressed  interest in developing the 18 hole golf course that is expected to cost around `108 crore. The private investor will have to construct a 150 bed room hotel, besides developing the golf course in the 135 acres of land that has been acquired already, according to the specified international standards on build, own, operate and transfer basis.The department plans to give an option of playing golf in different golf courses across the state, for international tourists, who would be travelling in the Golden Chariot, at an extra cost. The department has worked out an itinerary for the same. The tourist will have the option of playing golf in any of the golf courses in the city, after checking in and before the Golden Chariot departs. The department is also working on including the option of playing golf in Goa, for the tourists travelling by the Golden Chariot.
