THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sports Minister K B Ganesh Kumar has said that the state has failed to provide basic facilities to budding sports talents. Inaugurating the newly-built swimming pool having international standards and sports hostel at Pirappancode near here on Wednesday evening, he said that the situation would not be the same from now onwards. With the completion of the new facility, Kerala has found a place in the international sports map, the Minister said. The construction activities of National Games venues will be finished on time without making any compromise on transparency, Ganesh Kumar said. Airing his dissatisfaction over the delay in completing the construction, he said that many would be embarrassed if a post-mortem of the construction works which lasted for almost 11 years was held. ‘’The disclosures would disrupt the smooth functioning of the new facility. So, I am keeping mum,’’ the Minister said. Ganesh Kumar also announced that construction of five out of the total 18 synthetic multi-purpose courts had begun. A sporting facility on the lines of Lakshmi Bai National College for Physical Education (LNCPE) would be set up in Palakkad district. Apart from that, 10 mini swimming pools would be built in selected schools across the state, the Minister said. Palode Ravi MLA presided over the function. Padmini Thomas, Shyni Wilson, Wilson Cherian and Sebastian Xavier were also present.
