Minister for Higher Education C T Ravi said that formalities for new transfer policy for colleges teachers was in final stages and it would be implemented soon.
The new policy would enable the government to spread talented faculty to work in all the six revenue divisions in the state. Such a policy has been in practice in primary and high school sections and it has worked for the best interests of both the teachers and the students. Excessive concentration in metros only did abode well for both.
During Ravi’s visit to the State Women University here on Sunday, the minister said that he would visit all the 17 universities in the state soon to understand the real working conditions in respective universities.
Speaking about the State Women University here he said that it needed some upgradation and basic structures. The university has submitted a proposal for grant of `25 crore, Ravi said and added that he had spoken to Social Welfare Department, which had agreed to release funds for girls’ hostels in the new premises here.
This is the only women university in the state and building on sound footings of world class infrastructure was the need of hour before thinking of its applicability to all women colleges in the state covering all districts.
The minister said that there were two private universities in the state while the proposal was being made to extend them to six at least. Ravi said that private participation was equally essential for higher education. Budhetary provision was very little when compared to the needs of the sector. There were about 360 degree colleges in the state.
