Manchester (England): Ruud van Nistelrooy could be on his way out of Manchester United after leaving Old Trafford three hours before the team's kickoff against Charlton on Sunday.
The Netherlands striker has repeatedly been left off the Red Devils' starting lineup in the past two months with manager Alex Ferguson opting to play Louis Saha alongside Wayne Rooney.
With Rooney sidelined with a broken foot, Van Nistelrooy was expected to partner Saha. But he wasn't even at the ground when the team ran out with Giuseppe Rossi and Saha lining up in attack.
United did not say whether Van Nistelrooy had been due to play.
"We can confirm Ruud van Nistelrooy has gone home," United said in a statement.
"The club will be making no further comment as we are concentrating on today's game."
