COIMBATORE: The unusual case of a ‘thief’ swallowing a ‘stolen’ bracelet here has taken a curious turn as it has emerged that Satish (28), is an innocent goldsmith. His only crime was to have blindly followed his dream girl to a marriage hall in R S Puram on Saturday. What is ironical is that he did not swallow a stolen ornament but his own silver bracelet, that too in an attempt to end his life.On realising their folly, the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner T P Sundaramoorthy instructed the police to register a case against those who had beaten up Satish at the marriage hall.On Tuesday, Satish told Express: “The only mistake I did was that on spotting my long time dream girl (who used to live near his house) after a gap of two years, I blindly followed her into the wedding hall where she was an invitee hoping to express my love... I was loitering around hoping to meet her when a lady confronted me. I could not come up with immediate answers and soon a man accused me of being a thief. Then everyone around began bashing me.”Later, they handed him over to the police. At the station Satish says the police held him responsible for all the thefts in the area. “The only thought that crossed my mind was that I should not bring disrepute to my family. So I removed my silver bracelet and swallowed it hoping that I would choke to death,” he said fighting back tears.Additional DCP P Sundaravadvel confirmed that no FIR was registered against Satish. Sundaramoorthy, said that Satish had swallowed his bracelet at the marriage hall and not at the police station.
