Nooru Janmaku the title is taken from a song from the director's earlier film titled America! America!!.
This film conveys the pressing subject of recession. Probably for the first time in Indian films, the story deals with recession, both economical and emotional, its aftermath and the moral dilemma the affected are faced with.
The protagonists are faced with the red letter from their work place and move on to set up their own venture, how and where the venture leads them forms the story. This situation has been faced by many hence the relation to the characters and story are easy.
The first half is racy but the second half slows down however the element to be conveyed never loses focus. Sometimes the film makes you use your grey cells to interpret some scenes, while some scenes are in your face.
As the experimented earlier by the director this film too introduces new faces to the Kannada film Industry. Santosh is being introduced as a hero in this film. The film also stars Aadarsh Balakrishna (Iqbal fame), while the female lead is played by Ainditha Ray. The film also has many other debutants.
Aadarsh, Santosh and Ainditha have excelled in their acting.
Nooru Janmaku is Nagathihalli Chandrashekar's twelfth directorial venture. This director is from the “commercial meets parallel” school of cinema on the likes of K Balachander of Tamil cinema.
Over 40 per cent of the film is shot on the beautiful locales of Hong Kong and Macau. Many portions including the climax have been shot on the cruise liner Star Cruise. A song and dance sequence featuring a band of Russian artists is a highlight. The locales are a treat to watch and the camera has caught it even beautifully. The cinematographer Santosh Rai Pathaje aces, first with the location selection then capturing it. Certain scenes could be used as screen savers on our computers.
Manomurthy has scored the music. The film has five songs, including the re-orchestrated version of the hit song from the director's previous venture. The music director has worked on Nagathihalli’s earlier ventures and this is their sixth project together. The songs of the film are on the top 10 charts.
Produced by Vinay Lad, the film cleverly induces parallel cinema through a commercial medium, so don’t expect another potboiler.
