New Delhi: West Bengal chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said that people with debit cards and credit cards are surviving but it is the poor that is the worst hit owing to the demonetisation move by the Narendra Modi government.

“The entire nation is weeping after the demonetisation move and demanded an immediate rollback of the move," Banerjee told the media.

Protesting outside the RBI office in the capital, Banerjee said that the government should continue the circulation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes for the market stability to return.

Whereas, Union Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday thanked the people across the nation for welcoming the move inspite of the inconvenience faced by them.

“I thank the people of my country that they are welcoming this move inspite of inconvenience faced by them," Rajnath Singh told reporters.

He further added that terrorism and naxalism will get hit due to demonetisation.

All banks on Saturday will serve only their respective customers and will not exchange old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes from customers of other banks.

However, this restriction is not applicable to senior citizens who are allowed to visit any bank branches for exchange.
