BHUBANESWAR: There is no let-up in the war of words by senior Congress leaders over the press note issued on behalf of the OPCC president KP Singhdeo advising defeated leaders to contest the zilla parishad election.Former minister and Senior leader Narasingh Mishra on Friday demanded that State Executive be convened to discuss the situation arising out of the press note issue. Mishra said he has written to party chief Sonia Gandhi and senior leader in-charge of Orissa Jagdish Tytler in this regard on Friday. In a separate letter to KP, Mishra has asked him to convene the State Executive immediately to discuss the matter. The issue snowballed into a major controversy after OPCC Working President Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra challenged KP to contest panchayat election himself to show the way to others.Even though KP did a volte-face later, the controversy does not seem to die down soon. A section of the partymen has opposed the manner in which the preparatory meeting for the panchayat polls was conducted. Though there are three working presidents, none of them was invited to discuss the strategy for the panchayat polls scheduled for February. Besides, senior leaders were also ignored. The developments in the last couple of days have confused party workers. Against this backdrop, the fate of ‘Gaon ku Chala’ programme has plunged into uncertainty as partymen think the organisation is going to be polarised into pro and anti-KP factions before the panchayat elections.
