New Delhi: US President Barack Obama on Sunday said his and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stories of success could happen only in their respective countries.
"My story could only happen in the US and your story could only happen in India," said Obama while raising a toast at the banquet hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday evening.
He said it was remarkable that Modi used to sell tea while his mother would work in other houses to support the family and then he rose to become the PM of India.
The US President said he was impressed with Modi who told him that he sleeps only for three hours every day. Obama quipped that he was worse than Modi because he slept for five hours.
He expressed surprise over Modi's past. "What I didn't know that he once survived an attack by a crocodile," he said.
"I was thinking of wearing a 'Modi kurta' myself tonight," Obama said.
Starting with "Namaste India", he said, "I want to thank you for not making me dance again. I want to extend my thanks for the extraordinary hospitality that you have shown us today."
