In an attempt to fight the ongoing Maoist operations in the state, Odisha police will set up at least 11 new camps.

The development came after Odisha Director General of Police (DGP), Sunil Kumar Bansal, chaired a high-level and strategically crucial meeting in Bhubaneshwar’s Police Bhawan on Wednesday.

The police will be focussing on Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) and Nayanpuri divisions of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) in the upcoming days.

However, the DGP also expressed that with the General Elections scheduled to be conducted in 2024, the Maoist-infested districts will pose a serious threat to police.

The review meeting was attended by intelligence director Sanjeeb Panda, ADG (Operations) Debadatta Singh, intelligence DIG Anup Kumar Sahoo, special intelligence wing (SIW) DIG Umashankar Dash and Superintendents of Police (SPs) of 10 Maoists-infested districts as well as several other senior officials.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Inspector General (IG), DIG, and Border Security Force (BSF) IG and DIG along with SPs of Boudh and Keonjhar districts also participated in the meeting held on Wednesday.
