The Anna Arch continued to stand for the third day after efforts to demolish it began, even as Highways and Minor Ports Secretary Niranjan Mardi and a group of officials from the Chennai Corporation went into a huddle over the way forward.
The day witnessed a series of meetings between Mardi and a group of Corporation officials as they continued to shuttle between the Anna Arch site and the Secretariat.
However, a concrete decision failed to emerge at the end of the day.
Meanwhile, traffic continued to move slowly at peak hours as the arrangements were the same as on Monday with the only addition being a new crane which was brought in to ensure the easy removal of the monument.
The officials who are part of the removal project maintained that the steering committee comprising the police and corporation officials is working towards reaching an early decision.
The officials added that the arch could not be brought down within the stipulated time because of traffic concerns.
They cited logistics, such as putting the cranes in position, for the delay.
Officials said that the police had suggested that the demolition job be taken up during a weekend to avoid traffic snarls and with better preparedness.
In which case, the time taken to bring down both the arches would be at least two weekends.
