THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sruthilayam, an online friends’ group that discusses poetry, is holding its friendly gathering out of the web world under the title, ‘Sruthilayotsavam-2011’.The online group www.sruthilayam.net has more than 6,200 members on Facebook. On December 10, the group members would have a get- together at Vyloppilli Samskrithi Bhavan, expecting to see their friends face-to-face, many of them for the first time.As a proclamation of the event, a group of online members of Sruthilayam met at Napier Museum the other day. Chief Editor of the online site Anil Kuriathi, who himself is a poet, Dr Biju Abraham, Kamalalayam Rajan, K G Soorej and others belonging to the community participated. On the occasion, Vibin Kelambathu, Reshma P, Ajeesh C Philip, Aswati P V, Sreeraj P Chandran and other young poets recited their poems. They were joined by Germans Andy and Susan, who recited an English poem translated by one of the group members. The website, which is mainly a budding poet’s paradise, has been encouraging many poetic hearts to open up and pour out. The site carries out active poetic discussions and debates about current affairs. Though poems get posted on the site on a regular basis, many of the poets have not seen each other and Sruthilayotsav is expected to bridge the gap. The website has been active in charity programmes too.As part of the friendly gathering, a poetry competition will be organised for school, college students, NRIs and the public. Winners will bag the Remya Antony Sruthilayotsav Award and the Rugmini Menon Poetry Award, which have been instituted by the website. The last date for submitting the poems to the site is December 3. For details, contact Anil Kuriathi, Manacaud PO, Thiruvananthapuram-9 or log on to the website.
