Opposition parties including BSP, BJP and Congress on Thursday staged a walkout from Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council accusing the SP government of not being serious on the issue of law and order in the state. The issue was raised by all three parties through an adjournment notice during the zero hour demanding a debate on the law and order situation in the state.

Leader of the Opposition Naseemuddin Siddiqui while alleging complete collapse of law and order situation said 'jungle raj' is prevalent in Uttar Pradesh. Citing several cases of crime in the state he said that situation was so grim that it demands an immediate debate in the House.

Siddiqui also raised the issue of murder of BSP district secretary Amar Pal in Ghaziabad on January last and demanded financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh to Pal's family members and proper security. Leaders of other parties also expressed their views on the issue and pressed for an immediate debate in the House.

Trashing allegations of the Opposition as false, Leader of the House Ahmad Hasan said that a canard was being spread against the government and in all cases arrests were made. He alleged that those who triggered riots were attacking the government that law and order was poor. Hasan said that in Muzaffarnagar riots the government acted strongly due to which no such incident has taken place after September last.

He alleged that a baseless propaganda was being carried out against the government and assured that the government and the Chief Minister was sensitive of the issue. Siddiqui alleged that the intention of the government was not right after which the BSP members walked out of the house.

The BSP members were followed by BJP and Congress members. Rejecting the motions Chairman Ganesh Shanker Pandey directed the government to take effective steps to maintain law and order and provide security to the affected families.
