PUDUCHERRY: Barely a week after his victory over the DMK’s R Siva, Orleanpet’s new MLA Nehru alias Kuppusamy of AINRC from, got down to work. On Thursday he visited the Grand Bazar in his constituency to assess its infrastructure requirements and spent time talking to vendors about possible improvements. Nehru told Express that he planned to modernise the market by adding cold storage facilities and suitable building to house the vegetable, fish and provision shops.The 46-year-old, began his political career with the Congress but when the party didn’t give him a ticket to contest the 2006 elections, he contested as an independent candidate instead losing to Siva. When the Congress overlooked him for a party ticket in 2011 as well, Nehru joined the All India NR Congress and defeated Siva by a margin of 2618 votes.Now, he plans to tap his constituency’s tourism potential beginning with a fully equipped information centre to cater to the needs of foreign and domestic tourists. Nehru also plans to push for better connectivity between various tourist spots like Auroville, Arikkamedu, Chunnabar. Meanwhile Nehru still runs the Manithaneya Makkal Seva Iyakkam and Sumathy Charitable Trust in his spare time.
