Paddy fields should not be acquired for development projects

KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala asserted that development would not become sustainable without addressing ecological issues and said that paddy fields and wetlands in the state should not be identified or acquired for creating special economic zones or development projects.

He added that the UDF Government would evolve and adopt such a policy without fail on the basis of such an outlook.

Inaugurating the state leadership camp of Youth Congress Parliament and Assembly members ‘Yuvadarshan 2012’ here, Ramesh called for a strong land policy in the state. He said that he would urge UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to ensure that a policy was adopted at the national level itself at a time when the Central Government was rehabilitating all those who have surrendered their land for development projects.

He said that the UDF Government has taken a strong decision not to allow conversion of any more paddy field or other wetland in the state.

The KPCC president said that he was not the one who wished to see the destruction of Communist parties.

“The contribution of Communist parties in the polity of Kerala cannot be undermined. But the state of affairs in such outfits today is not at all a welcome sign and the people, especially the youth, should analyse it in detail,” he said.

“V S Achuthanandan and Pinarayi Vijayan are two sides of the same coin and they represent the cruel face of the Communist parties. None should forget that the murders claimed to have committed by M M Mani and team in Idukki were during the tenure of VS as party state secretary. Those aligned with the CPM are only paid workers,” he pointed out. Ramesh said that the commoners in the country and Congress workers were longing to accept the leadership of Rahul Gandhi now. Youth Congress was able to acquire a new orientation under the leadership of Rahul and when he comes to the helm of affairs of the Congress party, the party would become more vibrant and take upon the challenges posed by the BJP and Sangh Parivar at the national level,he said.

AICC secretary Menakshi Natarajan MP, KPCC spokesperson M M Hassan, Ministers V S Sivakumar and P K Jayalakshmi,MLAs V T Balram,Shafi Parampil, Anwar Sadath,YC national general secretary M Liju ,Mahila Congress state president Bindu Krishna and others attended.

Vishnunath flays community outfits

T’Puram: In his presidential address at the meet, YC state president P C Vishnunath MLA, was highly critical of the community and religious organisations in the state which were “trying to keep the UDF Government on the leash.”

“A strong counter has to be raised against attempts to smash the renaissance values which are integral to the state,by such organisations,” he exhorted and asked YC activists to defeat the designs of  the outfits to pressurise the government.   He also criticised CPM’s strategy to cover up the politics of murder by mobilising cadres and staging rallies.  Calling upon YC activists to be pro-active, Vishnunath urged all to stand by ‘Green Politics’ and make their presence felt on various ecological issues.
