CUTTACK: The stalemate between the DAV authorities and the teachers over salary hike demands, bringing three schools in the city to an absolute standstill for the last five days, has got parents and guardians on the edge.
With more than 8,000 students in three DAV schools at CDA Sector 6, Rajabagicha and Sreevihar going without studies in their classes since July 4, the suspension of schools for an indefinite period has come as the last straw. And, the parents have decided to knock the doors of the court. "How long can we tolerate our children going without any studies in the classes? As the summer vacations ended recently, this is the time when studies had to assume pace. Why should our children be victims of the tussle between the school administration and the teachers", questioned an irate mother Dr Kanti Naik.
The parents who have formed an Action Committee to deal with the situation had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Regional Director (RD) of DAV Schools to take steps to resolve the issues and ensure resumption of classes immediately. But with no action taken and the RD issuing orders suspending all classes indefinitely from Wednesday, patience has run out. "It is sheer violation of the rights of the children. The schools cannot be shut down owing to a standoff between the teachers and the management. It is illegal and we will definitely go to the Court if the classes do not resume from Monday," Action Committee member Dharmesh Nayak said. Of the four DAV schools, classes have been suspended in three with teachers of Gandarpur agreeing to resume classes. Class XII in CDA DAV school would also be run from July 11 with principals of schools in Bhubaneswar asked to take the classes till the matter is resolved, Mohanty added.
