HYDERABAD: It is official.Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday said he would come up with a solution to the Telangana tangle that would be acceptable to all regions, indicating that division of the State might not happen, after all. This will be more or less the “middle path” that the Congress is planning to adopt in regard to the state bifurcation issue as disclosed by The New Indian Express recently. The middle course would be finalised at the party’s Chintan Shibir scheduled to be held at Mt Abu in the first or second week of this month. The Chintan Shibir will be a wider platform and is expected to be attended by all Congress chief ministers, leaders of opposition, presidents of all PCCs, apart from top leaders including members of the CWC. Replying to a question at a press conference in Delhi, the Union Home Minister said, “We will have a solution acceptable to all.” By implication, it means the decision, whatever form it takes, will neither endorse nor reject the demand for a separate Telangana state. Constitution of a second SRC and announcement of a package for Telangana could be part of the “solution” that Chidambaram spoke about. He further said he would soon convene a meeting of representatives of all political parties to discuss the issue before announcing the decision (favourable to all). The Union Minister disputed TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s contention that the Centre was responsible for the mess in the state. “I disagree with him on this,” he said but agreed with Naidu that an early solution to the Telangana issue was imperative.Chidambaram’s statement evoked an adverse reaction from the TRS. Its leader T Harish Rao said the Union Home Minister’s statement was indicative of the government’s intention to shirk its responsibility.
