Plea to EC against frequent bypolls

HYDERABAD: A petition has been filed before the Election Commission of India, New Delhi seeking direction to candidates contesting the June 12 byelections not to resign again until the completion of the term of the House and not to cause further burden on the nation.Petitioner Ch Padma Rao, an advocate from Hyderabad, said elections were held to the Assembly 13 times since Independence and the House was dissolved twice. In the case of Lok Sabha, elections were held 15 times and the House was dissolved five times. Of the total byelections in 213 constituencies, 109 were caused by resignation, 78 by death and 22 due to other reasons.
