With the arrest of seven persons, police on Thursday claimed to have solved the case related to the murder of a constable on the Bypass road in Indore on February 25.
The accused killed police constable Sandeep Singh Bais (36) after he, with two other policemen, tried to intervene following an accident involving two trucks on the Bypass road, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Indore Range Rakesh Gupta said on Thursday.
Bais and two other policemen reached the spot where the two trucks had collided. The two drivers were having a heated exchange on the road.
To bring them under control, Bais hit Vinod, a driver, with his cane. Vinod pretended to have passed out, so the two other policemen took him to hospital. In the meanwhile, cleaner of the truck phoned the truck owner, who, with five others, arrived and attacked Bais with iron rods.
They took away his cellphone, and fled after dumping his body in a field, Gupta said.
Police have arrested transport company owner Mahaveer Singh (48), Vinod Chouhan (20), Devendra Singh (35), Sajjan Singh (25), Manmohan Singh (20), Ravindra Singh (20) and Kuldip Singh (19), the DIG said. One more accused was absconding, the DIG added.
