PUDUCHERRY: Spectators at the 64th Independence Day celebrations held at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex here on Monday, were disappointed as dancers from other states were not allowed to perform in front of the pavilion.Adding to the disappointment was the police asking the performers to rush through. As the spectators were about to leave after the march past, they heard music and soon, dancers and  martial artists from various states entered the ground.  This prompted them to return to their seats. However, the excitement died down as the dancers, in colourful attire, were not allowed to perform in front of the pavilion.A few groups, especially the ones from Gujarat and Manipur, managed to stage a performance in front of Chief Minister N Rangasamy. The spectators were again disappointed after the dancers were asked by the police to rush through.Earlier, the gathering witnessed a march past by various police units led by India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) SP Anto Alphonse, IPS, followed by NCC cadets, scouts and students of various schools and colleges. The Chief Minister hoisted the Tricolour in front of the gathering, which included his cabinet colleagues and top officials. Congress MLAs Malladi Krishna Rao and Lakshminarayanan, AIADMK MLA L Periyasamy and AINRC MLAs were present.
