BANGALORE: Even with several deadlines being set by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the city roads continue to be riddled with potholes. At a review meeting held in July, BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah and officials, Transport and Bangalore Urban District In-charge Minister R Ashok set a deadline of one month to fill 7,000 potholes, however, the deadline was not met.Later, in the special council meeting held on September 7, Commissioner Siddaiah assured that potholes would be filled within one month. He also said that the Palike has released `2 crore for the same. He also claimed that work on filling potholes has been going on at various places including JC road, Urvashi theatre, among other places. However, he had mentioned that if there was a downpour, more number of potholes would emerge.On Friday, Mayor Sharadamma gave Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) a deadline up till September 25 to repair the roads that have been damaged due to the ongoing metro construction. Earlier this week, the Mayor had asked the BMRCL officials to fill the potholes by September 20. When contacted G H Ramachandra, Standing Committee Chairman on Major works said that Palike has released `10 lakh to each ward for filling up the potholes. “We have told them to complete filling up the potholes in next 10 days, that is by September 20,” he said.The BBMP tenders for filling potholes has a different story. The tender which has been called to fill potholes for various wards stresses that contractor should complete the work within six months of duration.
