Prabhakaran's wife said to have fled to Tamil Nadu

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu: Speculation was rife whether the wife of LTTE supremo V Prabhakaran arrived in Rameswaram on Wednesday along with a group of Sri Lankan refugees in the face of escalation of confrontation between the Tamil Tigers and Sri Lankan forces.

Police and media personnel rushed to the Mandapam refugee camp after rumours said Prabhakaran's wife Madhivadhani reached the camp early Wednesday morning.

There were also rumours that Madhivadhani met the refugees and enquired about their living conditions.

Senior police officials, who visited the refugee camp in private vehicles, however, refused divulge details.

"We also hear only now about the rumour which has caused a flutter," a senior police official said on condition of anonymity.
