TIRUPATI: The visit of Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president and local MLA K Chiranjeevi to the municipal health workers (scavengers)colony on Monday has turned out to be a bitter experience for him, as the workers and the residents protested his visit for their grievances were not being addressed. As soon as the actor-turned-politician reached the colony, scores of municipal health workers and other residents mobbed Chranjeevi and shouted slogans against him. Many TDP activists led by Telugu Mahila district president Pushpavathy, TDP town leaders Damu, Jagannatham joined with the protestors and threw a volley of questions to the local MLAs on the development of the colony. Eventually, the protestors entered into arguments with the PRP chief, saying that he was ignoring the people, who elected him. Chiranjeevi struggled hard to pacify the angry protestors. With this, PRP activists came to the rescue of their leader, which resulted in a heated altercation between the TDP and PRP activists. Finally, the police intervened and took the TDP activists into custody.Resenting the MLA's attitude, Pushpavathy described it as a rude behaviour and said that despite they had made several representations to the corporation on the unhygienic conditions in the Leela Mahal area and scavengers colony, nothing has been done so far.She blamed the official apathy in manhandling the waste from fish market, slaughter houses and dumping yard, which she said, was posing health hazards to the residents. The MLA, instead of hearing their problem, forcibly sent them out using the police, she alleged.
