Putthige Mutt pontiff backs Laxmivara Theertha

Shiroor Mutt pontiff Laxmivara Theertha, who held a parallel rathothsava in Car Street on the Vitla Pindi day, has found a supporter in one of the Ashta Matadhipathis Putthige Mutt pontiff Sugunendra Theertha.

Backing Shiroor pontiff’s act of taking out a parallel rathothsava, Sugunendra Theertha said the act did not amount to violation of tradition of Ashta Mutts.

“In fact Shiroor pontiff is hurt by the attitude of Paryaya Sode Mutt, of not inviting him to the Krishnastami celebrations.

That is really unfair and violation of Ashta Mutt traditions,” Sugunendra told media persons on Monday.

“Not inviting him to the Krishnastami celebrations has posed a threat to the unity of Ashta Mutts.

If this continues, the tradition of inviting all the Ashta Matadhipathis to festivities like Krishnastami, Laksha Deepothsava and Paryayothsava celebrations might be affected.

In such a case, in the place of participation be the ashta matadhipathis, Paryaya pontiff might alone participate in the festivities,” Sugunendra said.

During the Sode Paryayothsava he had sat on hunger strike demanding for a unity among the Ashta Matadhipathis and he was forced to withdraw with an assurance from the then Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, he added He sought the intervention of senior Pejawar Mutt pontiff Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji in resolving the issue and bring in unity.

Pejawar Mutt pontiff, in a press release from Chennai said that he was saddened by the development in Udupi.

Carrying out a parallel rathothsava was totally unfair.

“If this was allowed to continue, I am afraid, there would be multiple rathothsavas every Krishnastami.

After I return from Chathurmasya I shall try my best to resolve the issue.

” Meanwhile, Paryaya Sode Mutt refused to comment on the development and preferred to maintain silence.
