RAMANATHAPURAM: A Q Branch team detained a Sri Lankan national, Mohamed Hasini (27), for producing fake documents to obtain a mobile SIM card at Keelakarai in the district on Saturday.Mohamed Hasini of Madavakulam, Puthalam district, Sri Lanka, had allegedly given `10 lakh as loan to one Iqbal two years ago. Iqbal fled to Keelakarai from Lanka without settling the loan. Mohamed came to Keelakarai using a tourist visa last month, took a room in a lodge and was searching for Iqbal at various places. Meanwhile, he developed a friendship with Kathiravan of Theriruveli, a construction worker who stayed at the lodge. Mohamed couldn’t obtain a SIM card without any valid documents and Kathiravan gave his voter ID card to him. Mohamed pasted his own photo on the ID card and took a photocopy of it. Later, he used it to purchase some SIM cards, police said. Based on the information, the Q Branch team led by inspectors Ganesan and Kennedy conducted a raid at the lodge and detained Mohamed.
