Tokyo: Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska overpowered Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 6-2 on Saturday to win the Pan Pacific Open.
"Playing against a player like Vera, you can't worry about tactics," Radwanska said. "I just tried my best from the very first point and stayed focused until the end."
The ninth-seeded Radwanska recovered from a 2-0 deficit in the opening set and took advantage of unforced errors by the fourth-seeded Russian to win her second title of the year.
After dropping the first two games of the match, Radwanska stormed back to take a 5-2 lead on her way to winning the first set when Zvonareva had 22 unforced errors.
Zvonareva overcame a 5-1 deficit against Petra Kvitova on Friday in the semifinals but couldn't stage another turnaround in the final.
Zvonareva struggled with her serve, double-faulting five times. She broke Radwanska to win the sixth game of the second set to make it 4-2, but any chance of a comeback was dashed when Radwanska broke her opponent in the next game, finishing with a forehand volley at the net.
"I'd like to say congratulation to Agnieszka, she deserved to win today," Zvonareva said.
Radwanska won her first singles title in three years when she beat Zvonareva in Carlsbad in August. The Polish star also beat the Russian player at the Rogers Cup in Toronto the week after Carlsbad.
