BANGALORE: Bangalore Club for Kathakali & the Arts (BCKA) a non-commercial organisation focusing on the preservation and promotion of Kathakali and other classical art forms, organised a romantic musical evening by renowned playback singer Madhu Balakrishnan and troupe at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. The evening was started with lighting of the lamp by Chief Guest, Kris Gopalakrishnan; executive co-chairman of Infosys. The other guests of honour were Snehal Mantri, director of marketing, Mantri Developers, and Rani Satish, former minister of Kannada and Culture.BCKA is a charitable trust and tries to help artistes, young and old, throughmonetary contributions as well as giving them a platform to perform. At this event, two eminent artistes, M Thimmiah and Nagalingaiah Vastradmath were felicitated. Former minister Rani Satish handed over a cheque for Rs. 20,000 each.M Thimmiah is 82 years old and is a well known Yakshagana artiste who devoted his life to Yakshagana. He founded the troupe ‘Bhagwati Yakshagana troupe’ and widely organised shows for over three decades. BCKA honoured M Thimmiah for his dedication to the field of Yakshagana. Nagalingaiah is a well know Hindustani vocalist and TV artist. He has been teaching Hindustani music to several students and has also served a music teacher to some schools. Sangeetha Jyothi, sangeetha Aradhaka and Kala Nidhi are only some of the accolades that he has received in his career. Recently he met with an accident and has been facing some challenges in life. BCKA helped Sri Nagalingiah with the amount towards his medical expenditure.
