Modi announced a grant of $1 million to the Indian Scholarship and Trust Fund for financial assistance to Malay-Indian students.

Malaysia: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, while addressing the Indian community in Malaysia, promised to eliminate corruption at all levels in India and vouched to drive its policy through good governance and not at the discretion of individuals.

"The change in India is gathering speed and it is showing in numbers. There is change in the way government is working and we are making the government transparent and accountable," he said at the Malaysia International Exhibition and Convention Centre on Sunday.

"I am delighted to visit Malaysia and Tamil people have a big role in India's path of development. Love and friendship of the Malay Indians has always had a special place in my heart. Independent India owes a debt of gratitude to Malaya-Indians. Thousands of your forefathers came forward to join Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s INA. It gives me immense pleasure to announce that our cultural centre here will be named after him," the PM said.

Modi also announced a grant of $1 million to the Indian Scholarship and Trust Fund for financial assistance to Malay-Indian students.

He claimed that the wheels of change have begun in India adding that his government is determined to eradicate poverty. "We produce doctors and engineers who serve the world and we are making products that are entering global market. We have strong partnership with ASEAN, this is the region where our economic relations are growing rapidly," he said.

Flaunting India's immense Power of Atom for Energy and Medicine, the Prime Minister said, "We have mastered the boundless power of atom for energy and in medicine."

Praising Malaysia for its advancement in many sectors, Modi said the country's achievements are enormous. It has nearly eliminated poverty and it has 100 per cent literacy. "Just six decades after Malaysia gained independence, this nation has much to be proud of," he added.

He said, "Malaysians are our strongest partners and closest friends in the region. South-East Asia is our neighbor on land and sea; this is most dynamic and peaceful region of World. India is one of the biggest sources of tourists in Malaysia. We have strong defence relations. We exercise together. Our security agencies work together against terrorist".

On terror issues, he said, "Religion must be de-linked from terror and we need to prevent internet as a tool for terror recruitment."

He ended his speech with a quote by former president late APJ Abdul Kalam, who had said, "Have the courage to think differently, and to discover the impossible."
