Elaborate security arrangements are put in place across the country for the Republic Day celebrations in the national capital on Friday. To maintain law and order situation in Delhi, borders will be sealed on the night of January 25.

All heavy transport and light goods vehicles will be barred from entering the capital ahead of the 75th Republic Day celebrations, along with elaborate security checks due to the sensitivity of the occasion, said HGS Dhaliwal, Special CP.

Delhi Police will deploy around 14,000 security personnel in and around Kartavya Path, where the Republic Day parade will take place. The decision has been made keeping in mind the safety and security of the 77,000 invitees expected at Kartavya Path on Friday. French President Emmanuel Macron will attend the Republic Day parade in New Delhi as the Chief Guest.

HARYANA ON HIGH ALERT

Haryana Police have strengthened security measures across the state in the run-up to Republic Day. Apart from conducting patrolling at vital points, special checking drives of trains and public transport are also being carried out. Haryana’s Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur reviewed the law and order arrangements for the Republic Day.

Close vigil is being kept at busy markets, bus stands, and railway stations. Hotels, guesthouses, parking lots, and restaurants are also being checked, officials said.

GURUGRAM

The traffic police in Gurugram have issued an advisory for heavy and medium vehicles in the city along with no entry of heavy vehicles in Delhi on Republic Day.

As per the traffic advisory, all the goods vehicle transporters have been apprised that medium and heavy goods vehicles will not enter Gurugram and Delhi from 5 pm on January 25 till 1:30 pm on January 26.

Gurugram Police spokesperson Subhash Boken said that Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in the city. During this period, there will be a complete ban on the use of drones, aircraft, gliders, air balloons, kites, and microlights in Gurugram till January 26, he added.

NOIDA ON ALERT

The Gautam Buddh Nagar police issued a traffic advisory, cautioning commuters of possible diversions on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway briefly on January 25. However, emergency vehicles will be exempted from any diversions, the police said.

The traffic police have suggested alternative routes for commuters, including those going to Delhi, with the diversion being planned given an event in adjoining Bulandshahr district.

INCREASED SECURITY IN J&K

Security has been tightened in Kashmir ahead of Republic Day to ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations in the valley, with police and other security personnel carrying out sanitisation and area domination exercises.

Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in the city and other district headquarters, they said.

Checkpoints have been established at various places in Srinagar, especially at the entry points of the city and other districts, they said.

While the main Republic Day function will take place in Jammu which will be presided by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the biggest function in the valley will be held at Bakshi Stadium. Similar functions will be held at district headquarters as well.

The security around the venues of Republic Day functions in the valley, including the stadium, has been beefed up, and a multi-layer security apparatus has been put in place around the venues, the officials said.

MUMBAI POLICE BAN FLYING ACTIVITIES AROUND SHIVAJI PARK

Police issued an order prohibiting flying activities on January 26 in the area surrounding central Mumbai’s Shivaji Park, which will be the venue for a ceremonial parade on Republic Day.

The order, issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), aims to thwart any threat by terrorists or anti-social elements to use the airspace for breach of peace and tranquillity, public order, and cause danger to human life and damage to government property on Republic Day.

According to the order, a large number of people are expected to gather for Republic Day celebrations, and adequate security checks must be put in place to prevent unwanted activities around Shivaji Park.

SECURITY TIGHTENS AT INDO-NEPAL BORDER

Security agencies along the Indo-Nepal border have been put on high alert. Identities of people are being checked before allowing them to cross the border to prevent the movement of anti-social elements in the area, said Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Gorakhpur, Akhileshvar Singh.

To strengthen the security arrangements at the porous Indo-Nepal border and stop the infiltration of anti-national elements, SSB has installed close circuit and drone cameras on every route leading to Nepal, the officer said.

Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district shares an 84-km open border with Nepal. Singh said these cameras have been put on SSB posts besides on the main roads. Metal detectors have been installed at Sonauli and Tuthibari outposts on the Indo-Nepal border, he added.

Dog squads trained in detecting narcotics and arms have been deployed to check smuggling across the border, the officer said. Assistance from Nepalese security agencies is also being taken so that no anti-national elements infiltrate the Indian side, Singh said.

“Sashastra Seema Bal and the police are investigating suspicious people in the congested areas and dhaba alongside the border. Along with this, a strict vigil is being kept on the people and the vehicles passing through the Sunauli Indo-Nepal border with the help of the dog squad,” officials said.
