Residential building collapses in Thane, 8 dead

Thane: A residential building collapsed in Thane on Tuesday resulting in the death of eight people and several feared trapped.

The three-storey residential building was located in the Naupada and collapsed around 2 AM. Fifteen families were in the building at the time of the collapse.

Rescue operations are underway. "The rescue operation has been on since we reached here at 4 AM. We can't tell you how long it will take because at this point, we're assuming that every person trapped underneath the debris is alive," said NDRF official Sachidanand Gawde.

Last week, another building collapsed in Thane and nine people lost their lives.
