THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Coming down heavily on Forest and Cultural Affairs Minister K B Ganesh Kumar, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Kodiyeri Balakrishnan demanded his resignation over the lewd remarks against the senior-most CPM leader in the state, V S Achuthanandan.Referring to the comment made by Ganesh Kumar regarding the Valakam incident, Kodiyeri said here on Friday that the minister in his speech remarked that the teacher, Krishna Kumar, was manhandled by certain people. “The remark makes it evident that he is involved in the Valakam attack. The Chief Minister should register a case against Ganesh Kumar and should demand his resignation from the cabinet. When the police had concluded that it was an accident, a minister claimed that the teacher was manhandled by people, which is a revelation that should be probed,” he said.Kodiyeri said that by his unsavoury comments he had insulted a veteran politician in the state and the Opposition would continue its protest until the Chief Minister demands the resignation of the actor-turned politician.CPI leader C Divakaran said that the remarks of Ganesh Kumar was uncalled for and that there was no other way for the minister other than to tender his resignation.Meanwhile, DYFI and SFI took out an Assembly march which was inaugurated by CPM leader Thomas Isaac. The protesters burnt Ganesh Kumar in effigy and the AIYF activists barged into the office of the minister, who were removed by the police.Isaac said that the Chief Minister was trying to protect Ganesh Kumar and the LDF won’t allow a minister to continue in the post after making such substandard statements against a senior politician like V S Achuthanandan.George comes out in support of GaneshGovernment Chief Whip P C George said here on Friday that if Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan was much younger then there was nothing wrong in the remarks made by Forest Minister K B Ganesh Kumar against him. George told reporters here that the present issue should become a platform to discuss whether the Opposition Leader was allowed to make ‘’lewd comments’’ in his speeches even inside the Assembly.“VS makes all sorts of derogatory remarks and lewd gestures even inside the Assembly where a lot of young politicians are present. The Opposition Leader should also look into the words hat he uses in his speech and the suggestive gestures he makes. If VS was 35-year old instead of 88, there was nothing wrong in the remarks made by Ganesh Kumar. Considering his age, the remarks could have been avoided,’’ George said.
