New Delhi: Restaurants and bars in the heart of Delhi, Connaught Place, will soon remain open till 1 am. Even the shopping outlets will remain open till 11 pm. The decision was taken by the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) to promote night shopping in Connaught Place. The decision is, however, awaiting the Lieutenant Governor's approval.
For the time being this proposal is only for Connaught Place and if it is successful, it may be implemented at other places too.
NDMC Chairperson Jalaj Srivastav said, "The shops in Connaught Place will remain open till 11 pm and restaurants and bars till 1 am. We have sought the police's help. Earlier, some shops used to open till late night but they faced security problems. Now, everything will be taken into consideration and the markets will be more lit up and more CCTV cameras will be installed."
The working youth and nightlife lovers are happy with the NDMC's proposal as they don't get time for shopping and leisure. After the change in the working hours after the entry of multi-national companies in Delhi and NCR, people had limited options for shopping and leisure after office.
To overcome security issues, the NDMC is in talks with Delhi Police and is also providing training to its guards, who will have 'May I Help You' written on their uniform.
