THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy directed the Road Safety Council to submit a report on the main reasons behind the increasing death rate in road accidents in each district. The report should be supervised by the respective district collectors.Speaking at a high-level meeting held at the Chief Minister’s Office here on Thursday he said that follow-up action should be taken based on the report so as to bring down the accident rates.It was also decided at the meeting to take stringent action against those drivers who indulge in rash driving. The licence of such drivers, including KSRTC drivers, will be suspended for one to six years. Sign boards and reflectors will be placed in all major roads in the state within a period of three months.The meeting also decided to approach Keltron to seek the possibility of installing cameras at all major roads in the state within a span of five months.  Chandy took the decision after it was brought to his notice that more than 7,000 traffic violations were recorded using cameras in between Aroor and Cherthala region.Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radakrishnan, Home Secretary Sajan Peter, DGP Jacob Punnoose, Works Department principal secretary P H Kurian, ADGP R Sreelekha and Motor Vehicle Department officials participated in the meet.
