Five persons, including a constable attached to the Railway Protection Force, have been arrested in a counterfeit currency case.
The Tanjore-based constable, P Selvaraj, was arrested on Thursday, when he deposited counterfeit currency, with a face value of Rs 13,000, at a private bank. “He came and deposited Rs 30,000, of which 26 notes with denomination of Rs 500 were found to be fake,” said Inspector Dakshinamoorthy. Investigations revealed that Selvaraj got the fake notes from a quartet he came into contact with while gambling.
