MADURAI: The city police recovered Rs 75 lakh unaccounted money and arrested seven persons near Mattuthavani Bus Stand here on Wednesday during a routine vehicle check.According to police, a team led by Inspector K Rajapandian was engaged in vehicle checks at a checkpost on the Melur Main Road near the Mattuthavani Bus Stand on Tuesday midnight.On Wednesday, seven persons, on their way towards Madurai, were intercepted by the police team at the checkpost. On checking them, the police found that they were carrying bags containing currency notes amounting to Rs 75,83,320.Police said the accused revealed that they were into the business of transacting unaccounted money on a commission basis.After interrogation, the police arrested the seven ,seized the cash and three motorcycles. They were remanded to judicial custody.P Kannappan, Commissioner of Police, Madurai, said that the money would be handed over to the Income- Tax (IT) Department for further investigation.
