Noida: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone of a 14 lane Delhi-Meerut expressway.
The construction of Rs 7,500 crore expressway will be done by upgrading the exiting highway. The project will not have any traffic signals and will reduce the travel time between Meerut-Delhi to just 40 minutes.
"We are not merely constructing a road, this is a highway to development. This will be a stretch to freedom from pollution. The expressway will lead to promotion of weekend tourism and development of a number of satellite towns," Modi said.

Modi said his government will take forward the programmes started by the Atal Vajpayee government including better road connectivity in the rural areas.
Union minister Nitin Gadkari, who was also present on the occasion, said, "The road connecting Meerut to Delhi is the busiest highway in the region. But the expressway will reduce the travel time. We have taken the initiative to de-congest Delhi."
