Alappuzha district recorded the second highest number of cyber crimes registered in the state. In all, 6,470 cases were reported in the district whereas 5,668 cases were registered in 2010. There were 2,055 cases in Kollam city, 6,401 in Kottayam, 1,910 in Idukki, 3,032 in Pathanamthitta, 4,395 in Thrissur rural, 4,376 in Malappuram, 5,074 Palakkad, 2,751 in Kozhikode rural, 2,000 in Wayanad, 5,501 in Kannur and 1,815 in Kasargod. All these regions recorded a rise in the number of cases compared to 2010.“The awareness classes and constant monitoring have led to a fall in the number of crimes in cities like Kochi. But we have to take serious steps to curb high-tech crimes in rural areas. With computers and Internet becoming common in rural parts, there are chances of crime graph going up in those areas,” Cyber Cell officials said.
