Park herself is no stranger to political asasination.
She is the daughter of former South Korean president Park Chung-Hee who was assasinated by his chief intelligence officer in 1979.
Just five years earlier, her mother was assasinated by a North Korean agent.
Park now heads South Korea's main opposition party, The Grand National.
She is considered one of the strongest candidates for presidency in 2007. Doctors expect her to make a full recovery.
