Unfazed by the talk of action against him by Congress over meeting Narendra Modi, Sadhu Yadav, the estranged brother-in-law of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, on Saturday went hammer and tongs against party slamming the UPA government.
Yadav also made it clear that he had been interacting with the Gujarat Chief Minister for quite some time and had gone to meet him after the latter invited him for tea and claimed "no political issue was discussed".
His meeting with Modi in Ahmedabad on Friday had sparked speculation of his joining the BJP though the state unit of that party has made it clear that there is no question of inducting him. Congress in Bihar sought to play down the Yadav-Modi meeting, saying "Sadhu Yadav does not hold any party post.
The PCC will take appropriate action if something serious comes out," state Congress president Ashok Chaudhary said. Sources in the party said that Yadav is set to face disciplinary action. "Action against him, if any, will be taken at district or state level.
What is so big about him," said a party functionary speaking on the condition of anonymity. AICC general secretary Shakeel Ahmed said, "I am not sure whether he (Yadav) is still in Congress or not. He had indeed contested the 2009 Lok Sabha election on Congress ticket and then assembly polls in October 2010.
But after that we have not seen him active in party affairs." Yadav, however, claimed that Congress' vote share had gone up in last Lok Sabha election due to his association with the party and that he is not bothered about any action against him by the party. Continuing to heap praise on Modi, Yadav said, "Should I all the time be seeking permission to meet somebody.
I do not understand what is this Congress culture. I have a personal relationship with Modi. The country needs leaders like Modi." After meeting Modi on Friday, Yadav, who had contested the last Lok Sabha election on Congress ticket, said the Gujarat Chief Minister has better qualities to become Prime Minister than Rahul Gandhi.
He was accompanied by another Bihar Congress leader Dasai Chaudhary at the meeting, which took place at Chief Minister's office in Gandhinagar. Yadav, a former Rajya Sabha MP, was in a defiant mood when reporters asked about possible action from party chairperson Sonia Gandhi in the wake of his meeting.
"I am not at all afraid of disciplinary action from Congress. Let them take action against me at their own peril. If party takes action against me then do you think I will sit with my hands tied ?" he had retorted. Yadav, who had left Lalu's RJD before the last Lok Sabha polls to join Congress, unsuccessfully contested from Bettiah Lok Sabha seat.
Yadav on Saturday targetted the UPA government over its policy towards China and Pakistan saying "the government sits silent, when China infiltrates our border. Pakistan beheads our soldiers. What wrong Modiji does, when he raises those issues." He at the same time said that though he had a over 50- minute meeting with Modi, "it was not about politics".
In a letter to Bihar Congress president Ashok Chaudhary, the two leaders, Yadav and Dasai had earlier said they had gone to Ahmedabad for some personal work with a local citizen. "In between we received an invitation from Narendra Modi to have tea with him which we accepted and went to his office.
We went to Modi's office at 11:00 AM (on Friday) and returned after having tea with him," said the two leaders in the letter, released to the media.
