KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Friday granted bail to DySP C K Ramachandran, the 14th accused in the custodial death of Sampath, the prime accused in the murder of Sheela of Puthoor.Justice V Ramkumar granted bail to Ramachandran from June 6 on a bond of Rs 25,000 and two solvent securities of the like amount.Opposing Ramachandran’s bail application, the CBI submitted that, “Even assuming that Sampath had involvement in the murder of Sheela, the police had no business to torture him to death under the guise of interrogation. The petitioner is one of the officers who gave instructions to manipulate records to save his police comrades, who took the life of Sampath,” the CBI submitted.“Custodial death is one of the worst crimes in a civilised society governed by the rule of law. Direct evidence of his actual participation in the torture is also not forth coming. He had also undergone 61 days of judicial custody,” the court said.
