Sanaullah in a deep coma; protests erupt in PoK
"He is on ventilator and in a deep coma. He continues to be critically sick," said doctors on Saturday night.

Chandigarh: Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Haq, who was attacked by his fellow Indian inmate in a Jammu jail on Friday, is in a deep coma, said doctors, adding that the 52-year-old is critical and on ventilator support. The Indian convict, who had allegedly attacked Haq, was sent to 7 days of police custody on Saturday.

"He is on ventilator and in a deep coma. He continues to be critically sick," said an update issued on Sanaullah's condition by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh on Saturday night. "Sanaullah remains on ventilator," it said adding his blood pressure had been going down and his neurological status remained the same.

Meanwhile, around 200 people took to the streets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Saturday to demonstrate against the attack on the Pakistani prisoner. Sanaullah, a Pakistani national serving a life sentence in Jammu's Kot Bhalwal Jail, was bludgeoned with a pickaxe by a fellow inmate, who is a former Indian Army man on Friday. The incident took place a day after Indian convict Sarabjit Singh, who was lodged in a Lahore jail, succumbed to the injuries he sustained in a brutal assault within the prison. Sanaullah is currently admitted at PGI, Chandigarh, where he was airlifted from Jammu for treatment.

A team of Pakistani High Commission officials visited Sanaullah, a resident of Saialkot in Pakistan, at the PGIMER after India granted consular access to them on Friday night.

Sanuallah is serving a life term after being convicted under TADA provisions following his arrest in 1999. Two prison officials, including Jail Superintendent Rajni Sehgal, had been suspended by the Jammu and Kashmir government in connection with the assault.
