With complaints pouring in about the quality of Sanskrit tolls being compromised, the School and Mass Education Department has decided to make a special review of the tolls operating across the State.

There are about 200 Sanskrit tolls in Odisha out of which just about 10 are operating under the Government banner while the rest are either private or aided. However, the department has, of late, been flooded with complaints that students of the tolls have used unfair means to score well in the secondary examination.

At a review, held by School and Mass Education Minister Rabi Narayan Nanda and Secretary Usha Padhi, here on Saturday, it was decided that a special review of the Sanskrit tolls will be made.

The meeting also decided that the department will keep an eye on single- teacher schools. All the District Inspectors of Schools (DIs) have been asked to report existence of such schools and ensure that more teachers are posted.

Besides, to ensure quality of education, the department has decided to form a committee of education experts and academicians who will recommend changes in the system.

This year, the meeting revealed, 3,08,734 students will be given bicycles as per the decision of the Government. Boys from BPL families will be eligible for the cycles whereas only girls were entitled to it last year. To make the system foolproof, the department will dish out photographs of the students with their parents receiving the cycles.

The department has also planned to implement its rehabilitation scheme seriously while holding meetings through video-conferencing at regular intervals. Nanda, on his part, will hold grievance meetings every month.
