CHENNAI: There’s an opportunity to give pills a miss and look for solution to our health problems in herbs. At CP Art Centre, Eldams Road, there’s a red, flake-like particle called Carthamis Tinctorius to join a ruptured blood vessel, a Piper Longum to treat asthma, Ferula Asafoetica to heal a fractured bone and Vitis Vinifera to cure hoarseness in your voice. These, and cure for more serious health problems, including diabetes and even advanced cancer, can be found at CP Art Centre as part of a three-day free consultation and exhibition of Tibetan Medicine.Organised to commemorate the golden jubilee year of the formation of the Tibetan Medicinal and Astrological Institute in India — Men-Tsee-Khang — in Dharmasala, the three-day exhibition will include a free consultation with Tibetan medical experts and an astrologer, till August 31.“I wish to convey my solidarity with the cause of healing more than curing and Tibetan medicine does that,” said Girija Vaidyanathan, health secretary, inaugurating the expo. “Though people from Tamil Nadu are stubborn, they are wise too. I hope they will utilise this opportunity to try this form of medicine that focuses on complete healing of the persons,” she added. Though the medical centre had been functioning largely in Dharmasala and in Bengaluru in South India, a centre in Chennai was recently opened too, said Dr Dorjee of the Tibetan Medical Centre. He hoped that the Government of India’s legal recognition for the Tibetan Medicine style would bring it more patronage in the country. The Tibetan Medical Centre has been functioning for more than a year now at the CP Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation, Eldams Road, and free consultation will be provided between 10am and 7pm till August 31.
