The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered that suspended encounter specialist Daya Nayak should not be arrested till Friday.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered that suspended encounter specialist Daya Nayak should not be arrested till Friday, the day it will hear his plea seeking

anticipatory bail in a case of disproportionate assets registered against him.

A Bench headed by Justice K G Balakrishnan extended by two more days the protection of one week granted to him by the Bombay High Court to surrender.

Nayak has been facing arrest after the Mumbai High Court rejected the bail pleas of his and his associate Rajendra Phadte.

The Court, however, granted bail to Daya Nayak's wife Komal and gave the cop one week's time to surrender.

The Mumbai crime branch had arrested Nayak, Phadte and Komal for possessing wealth disproportionate to their known income.

Last week, the court had granted Daya Nayak, his wife Komal and an associate Rajendra Phadte interim protection till Tuesday.

Nayak had moved the Bombay High Court challenging a sessions court order which rejected his bail.

Nayak's lawyers argued that custodial interrogation is not necessary as the case documents are already with the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
