Scheme to reward best driver on the cards

KOCHI: For totally averting vehicle accidents  owing to manpower failure, a driving school based in Kochi is considering a scheme to reward the ‘Best Driver’ who follows the safe driving norms with a smile.The A2Z Driving School has mooted the proposal as its leaders have found that there are several careful and cautious drivers across the state now. But the sad part of  it is that there is no proper recognition and reward for these drivers.The school is planning to introduce the scheme with the cooperation of the Traffic Police and all those who are willing to extend support for ushering in an accident-free traffic. A2Z proprietor P L Milan and manager (administration) K V Gopalakrishnan have said that these Best Drivers will be a role model for the driver fraternity. “We want to implement the scheme after thorough discussions with the Traffic Police and the associations of drivers, including both light and heavy vehicles,” said Gopalakrishnan.“A driver who follows the best manners on the road will be spreading the message of good driving. When a driver shows the magnanimity and willingness to allow a vehicle to overtake will definitely earn the goodwill of the overtaker and the overtaker himself is likely to allow decent overtaking at a later point of time,” said Gopalakrishnan.“It was the experience gained while imparting driving lessons on the road to the learners that made us think of rewarding the best drivers for safe roads of tomorrow,” he said. “A smiling face, relaxed mood and patience will go a long way in making the drive a happy experience for the driver himself, other drivers and the people on the road,” he said, explaining a significant psychological principle which a driver should never forget.“The maximum time saved by over-speeding will be less than a few minutes or a few seconds which can be easily ignored by anybody anywhere anytime. A little patience for careful driving will always bring a sea-change on the road,” Gopalakrishnan said.“The reward for the best driver will be decided after finalising all the formalities, including the procedure for selection of the best driver,” he said.
