THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: One more student who was battling for life after being seriously injured in the school van mishap at Parvathy Puthanar at Channamkara on Monday, died in the wee hours of Tuesday at the SAT Hospital here.The student Krishna Priya, 12, died at around 3.15 am, raising the death toll in the mishap to four. The bodies of the four of the victims Krishna Priya, Aswin, 11, Aromal S Nair, 9, and Kaniha Santosh, 6, were taken to their native place Puthukurichy, after conducting autopsy in the Medical College here on Tuesday morning.DRIVER FIRST ACCUSEDMeanwhile, it has been conclusively found that it was driver Jefferson, 30, himself who was driving the vehicle when the mishap occurred.Jibin Xavier, 19, the cleaner of the bus, was initially listed as the first accused on the basis of evidence gathered from the students who were occupants of the bus. However, later in the day, Jefferson was listed as the first accused and he had been charged under Section 304 (culpable homicide) and Section 194 ( giving or fabricating false evidence). It has been found that Jefferson did not have ten years of driving experience, which is mandatory to drive school buses and had got the badge for heavy vehicle driving only recently. Jibin has been listed as the second accused.Authorities of the Jyothy Nilayam school, from where the students were returning in the chartered bus owned by another school, has been listed as the third accused in the case, on charges of negligence. Fearing a violent backlash from irate locals, the crew of the bus were shifted from Kadinamkulam police station by the Special Branch to Attingal station on Monday evening.The probe ordered into the mishap by the government will be conducted by Attingal DySP Byju. A 15-day deadline has been set to file the report.
